Video of Intensive Teaching

Learner - Vincent
Instructor - Emily Jane Sweeney-Kerwin

This video provides an illustration of discrete trial training with a learner with autism within an ABA program. The viewer will note that procedures designed to increase the learner’s motivation to respond are being implemented. These procedures include a brisk pace of instruction, a high rate of correct responding through errorless teaching, the mixing and varying of tasks, and the interspersal of a high rate of mastery skills to targets. Learners who receive individualized one-on-one instruction may spend from 15 minutes to 30 minutes per hour in this type of learning activity.

Video of Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

Learner - Max
Instructor - Emily Jane Sweeney-Kerwin

This video provides an illustration of Natural Environment Teaching with a young child with autism. This type of learning activity has become a recognized component of most ABA programs for children with autism. This program component is designed to transfer skills acquired in other learning activities to the naturally occurring settings experienced by most children. In addition, many skills such as manding (requesting) are best taught in environments that have naturally occurring reinforcing value for the learner.
